St Mary’s College Leads the Fraser Coast in Subject Choices for 2025

Unveiling Free Online Education, Plus Unmatched Opportunities for Students Career Pathways!

St Mary’s College is excited to introduce a groundbreaking initiative that will transform education in the Fraser Coast. From 2025, the College will provide enrolled Year 11 and 12 students with free access to FisherONE Online Education. This fully facilitated, high-quality learning platform will offer the widest selection of subjects in the region, giving students a unique advantage in their academic and career pursuits—all at no extra cost.

Additionally, St Mary’s College is expanding its Vocational Education & Training (VET) and certificate programs, further broadening opportunities for students across various career paths. These opportunities ensure that every student can pursue their individual academic and vocational goals, making St Mary’s the leader in educational options across the Fraser Coast.

Expanding horizons through FisherONE, students at St Mary’s will have access to a broad array of over 20 General Subjects (ATAR), and for those interested in Applied Subjects, FisherONE offers practical pathways like Information & Communication Technology, alongside Short Courses that build foundational skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

Principal Bree Brockenshire expressed the College’s enthusiasm for these new opportunities:

“We are proud to offer our students the most diverse subject options in the Fraser Coast through FisherONE—completely free. This platform is designed to foster independence and resilience, and will prepare our students for higher education and their future careers.”

With additional opportunities for Year 10 Students in 2025, St Mary’s College will also offer Certificate I in Construction to Year 10 students—entirely free of charge. This unique offering sets St Mary’s apart from other schools in the area, providing students an early introduction to trade skills that will prepare them for future success.

For Year 11 and 12 students, St Mary’s College is offering a variety of senior certificate courses with career focused paths designed to provide practical skills and direct pathways into further education and employment. Some of these courses may include associated costs, but they offer significant long-term benefits for students’ career development: such as Fitness, Health Services, School-Based Education Support (with direct entry into the University of the Sunshine Coast for Education), Aviation (Remote Pilot Drones), Sampling and Measurement and Laboratory Skills

At St Mary’s College, Year 11 and 12 students can also get a Head Start on their university education by enrolling in university subjects while still at school. These units are either free or heavily subsidized and can lead to direct entry into related courses at partner universities.
VET courses at St Mary’s allow students to gain nationally recognized qualifications in a range of industries. These include school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs), which are available to Year 11 and 12 students and, in some cases, Year 10 students. These opportunities help students develop workplace skills that are directly applicable to their chosen career pathways.
Such as
Hospitality/Tourism, Manufacturing Technology, Sport and Recreation, Early Childhood Education and Care, Crime and Justice, Information, Digital Media, and Technology, Visual Art, Business, Sampling & Measurement, Laboratory Skills and Plumbing
Students at St Mary’s also have access to external VET opportunities through TAFE campuses in Maryborough and Hervey Bay, including programs like: Certificates in Construction, Electrotechnology / Sustainable Energy, Engineering Pathways, Automotive Vocational Preparation and Health Support.
